Massage therapists can also earn CEUs by attending the Qi Healer Intensive anytime we present it at Somerset School of Massage Therapy - Cortiva.

Private Appointments Private Appointments...
To be comfortable and healthy, the vital life force – Qi (energy) – needs to circulate in a balanced way. Discomfort and disease, according to Classical and Traditional Chinese Medical theory, stem from an energy out-of-balance condition. We address this condition in our Qi Gong Healing Practice at our Warren, NJ location. Come visit and experience the benefits of Qi Gong! Learn how you can help balance your own energy to promote your own well-being!

A Typical Session...
A typical session includes energy assessment; application of external Qi for balancing; and instruction in Qi Gong exercises and/or meditations for your specific energy imbalance. Either or both Fran & Brian see you in a session. We conduct these sessions in a conversational mode so that you know what we're doing and why. If you prefer to be seen by either Fran or Brian alone, for whatever your reason, we will honor that and be glad to arrange that if you wish.

Acupuncture -- Private Appointments...
Fran is seeing patients for private appointments at her Watchung, NJ, Office. Acupuncture is another effective and safe healing art from China. Applications include pain and many chronic conditions, women's health, men's health, and much more. Acupuncture is based on the same theories of balancing and correcting Qi in the human body. In a quiet and restful setting, hair-thin needles are placed at acupoints on specific meridians to direct the energy. Patients commonly describe the experience as deeply relaxing.

Classes: Qi Gong & Tai Chi

In a Qi Gong class for self-health, you will learn sound Qi Gong methods to produce the relaxation, peace, and inner quiet that allow your body to heal itself naturally. Qi Gong techniques use Mind, Body, and Breath in a variety of ways to encourage Qi balance and circulation throughout every cell of your entire body.

Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan), simply put, is Qi Gong whose traditional purpose is for self-defense as well as self-development. Presently our Tai Chi classes focus on the healing-balancing aspects of the art - the martial aspects are explained but not practiced on each other. Thus emphasis is place on developing a self-practice of Tai Chi for health & well-being.

Chinese Soaring Crane Qigong...
This Qi Gong was developed by Jin-Xiang Zhao (Beijing, China) and originally taught to a group of nine people (most of whom were seriously ill). All of these students regained excellent health and became the core of the first group of teachers of Soaring Crane Qigong. Since its start in 1979 many millions of people throughout the world have felt the benefits of this Qigong. Brian learned from Master Zhao.

You will learn five Qigong routines and, an optional, Standing Meditation. Simple, easy-to-learn movements and mindful focus encourage the cleaning and revitalizing of the energy pathways (meridians and channels); help the body strengthen the immune system; and provide a method to experience Qi quickly. Two items may be useful to you for Soaring Crane study and practice:
     1) Book written by Master Zhao describing Chinese Soaring Crane Qi Gong (available from the web), and
     2) Audio CD or tape, included with course tuition, that guides you through each of the 5 routines and assists you in self-practice between sessions and after class to help you become proficient with the routines.

The course is taught in several formats:

Eight Sessions (2 1/4 hrs each), One Session per Week. One routine is taught each week for five weeks; a review of previously learned routines is conducted each week to help re-enforce learning. If class participants are ready, then the Standing Meditation will be taught in Sessions Six through Eight. (Students will also learn a relaxation technique during one of the sessions.)

Ten Sessions (1 1/2 hrs each), One Session per Week.
Over the course of the ten sessions, the five routines are taught and reviewed. To receive the most benefit from the course, we encourage you to use the time between sessions for practice to hone your skills and experience. (This time is also useful for determining what your questions are so that you may ask them in the weekly sessions.)

Two Sessions (6.5 hrs each), one session per week end. Routines 1-3 are taught in Session One; Routines 4-5 in Session Two. The Audio CD or Tape mentioned above will be supplied. (Students will also learn a relaxation technique during the last session.)

Standing Meditation. (contact us if interested)

Qi Gong for Stress Reduction & Productivity (Corporate Sites)
Stress and productivity are related. Decreasing stress in the workplace benefits both the company and the individual.

You have probably heard people say that you should be calm, centered, grounded, relaxed.... Well, how do you do that? That's what this course is about. We'll take several typical stressful workplace situations and present alternative ways to respond:

  • to preserve your health and peace of mind
  • to increase your focus
  • to be viewed by others (colleagues and/or management) as part of the solution -- not part of the problem!

Qi Gong techniques are taught in a way that you can use and apply at the workplace (or anywhere, for that matter!). The course can be presented in a number of formats -- from one day to several sessions over a period of time. Call us so that we can tailor this class for your needs!

Explore these concepts and experience techniques to improve your health and peace of mind.

Qi Gong for Health
This course is considered to be an open class, that is, a class that is taught over many sessions indefinitely. People can come to one or all (or any) classes and still benefit from the skills learned. An ideal class length is 1.5 hours. In that time people can experience about three Qi Gong activities: "transition" Qi Gong exercise (from the fast pace of reality to the peace of this Qi Gong class); some kind of Qi Gong routine (e.g., maybe Seasonal Qi Gong; an experience of Qi; discussion of helpful points to meditate upon); and then a guided Qi Gong meditation gently brings the session to a close. The discussion content, movement, and still practices are a spontaneous selection in the moment based upon the particular group of people on this particular day. This course is excellently suited for a fitness center in an athletic club or corporate setting. Call for details and possible arrangements.

Qi Gong Remedies Workshop

Qi Gong Remedies are gentle techniques of Classical Chinese Medicine that people practice for the improvement of their own health. Some include movement, some are based on stillness. Expect to relax deeply and pleasurably while you are rebalancing your body -- functions, fluids, and cellular communications. Bring body, mind, and breath to class! Learn new (really old) ways of using them in combination to produce these remedies. We will discuss remedies for common ailments and discomforts in the context of Qi Gong.

Tai Chi Chuan (Taijiquan)
Learn to gather & direct Qi within your body and learn basic aspects of this martial art form. Class emphasis will be on the health aspects of the form. Beginners and advanced students alike will benefit from practicing inner work combined with graceful informed martial movements. All Tai Chi classes will include Qi Gong practices.

Sun (soong) Style...
Learn an easy, yet effective, Tai Chi form which combines Qi Gong with a number of self-defense forms. Dr. Paul Lam's adaptation, especially for those with joint pain or stiffness. Easy and quick to learn; comfortable to do - with all the health benefits of Tai Chi. Each session has three parts:

  • Warm-up (gentle Qi Gong and exercise to loosen joints and improve Qi circulation)
  • Sun Style Form*
  • Cool-down (gentle movements to end the session)

*The form consists of one or more movements strung together in a series of gentle movements performed sequentially in a continuous manner - as all were the same movement from beginning to end. Breath and mind are very peaceful during these movements. This combination of body, mind, and breath is the regulating core for all the Tai Chi benefits. The form is taught in a number of sequences and can be learned as 6, 12, 24, 36, or 73 movements. Seek the level with which you are comfortable.

Book Talk Honestly, we have resisted including a book list... So many references exist - in many languages. Following have been selected as a good introduction to the topic of Qi Gong.
